These instructions are updated for VDL library version 2.5.6 which is now compatible with Native Access 2.
IF YOU ARE UPDATING FROM AN OLDER VERSION
If you are updating from a version prior to 2.5.6, we recommend you start the process by uninstalling your older library. Once you've completed that, carry on with the following steps.
1) DOWNLOAD AND INSTALL VIRTUAL DRUMLINE 2.5
To download Virtual Drumline 2.5 (VDL), you will use an application called Conduct. This is a utility that will streamline the process of downloading, unpacking, and assembling the numerous large files required by your library.
- Download and install the Conduct downloader application.
- Copy your VDL serial number or download code. This is found in the email you received from Tapspace.*
- Launch Conduct, and tell it the location where you'd like to install your VDL library. This can be anywhere on your computer, but if you're unsure, we recommend your Myusername>Documents folder.
- Click the PASTE DOWNLOAD CODE FROM CLIPBOARD button. Your product should appear as queued in the list. Simply click the large arrow button at the bottom of the screen to start your download. (NOTE: Be sure you have at least 11GB of hard drive space to ensure a hassle-free installation.)
- Several files will begin to download. These files are somewhat large and can take a while to download, depending on the speed and reliability of your internet connection and network settings. Please be patient while everything downloads as it's important for everything to fully complete.
- When the files have completed downloading, the "Install" process will begin by automatically assembling into one complete folder.
*If you purchased the physical DVD a long time ago (before the downloadable option was available in 2012), we recommend you obtain a downloadable replacement. We offer this at a reasonable price of $15 which gives you the most up-to-date library version, as well as ongoing access for future downloads and installations.
2) DOWNLOAD AND INSTALL NATIVE ACCESS & KONTAKT PLAYER
Native Access is an application in which you can install, activate, and update any products by Native Instruments (or third party Kontakt Player libraries like Virtual Drumline). It will be required to get up and running.
- Download Native Access from the Native Instruments website and install it.
- Once installed, launch Native Access.
- If you have a Native Instruments user account already, log in*. If you don't yet have an Native Instruments account, create one now.
- Once logged into Native Access, go to the Library tab.
- Locate Kontakt Player. We recommend either Kontakt Player 7 or 6.
- Click Install and Native Access will automatically download and install Kontakt Player. That's it!
Please note that your Native Instruments login info is not the same as your Tapspace login. These accounts are not tied together.
*(IMPORTANT: If you previously activated a product with an old email address that you no longer have access to, DO NOT create a second, new NI account. It will be far simpler to update your existing NI account to your current email address. If you're unsure of which email address may be attributed to your NI account, please contact us so we may quickly assist.)
3) INSTALL VIRTUAL DRUMLINE WITH NATIVE ACCESS
PART A (new users only)
- Launch Native Access and click + Add a serial.
- Paste in your VDL serial number and click the Add Serial button. This will register VDL to your personal NI account.
- Virtual Drumline is now registered exclusively to you!
PART B (all users)
- Click the Library tab, and you should now see "Virtual Drumline 2.5" as an available option. Click the Locate button to tell Native Access where your library is located.
- Navigate to the "Virtual Drumline 2.5 (v2.5.6)" folder and click Open to select it. Click Confirm.
- Your VDL library is now installed!
- Launch Kontakt and you should now see Virtual Drumline 2.5 as an available library.
